CAPE 1: DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SHARED VISION
CAPE 1, focusing on developing and implementing a shared vision, is central to my training as a school administrator. This expectation involves creating a vision that is clear and compelling and collaboratively developed with stakeholders, including teachers, students, parents, and the community. This ensures the vision supports equity and achievement for all students.
During my practicum, I developed a sample mission statement centered on student achievement and well-being, providing a practical exercise in articulating a vision. I compared this vision to that of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), identifying areas of alignment and discrepancy. This comparison helped me understand the importance of ensuring that school goals align with district objectives, and I proposed revisions to align these visions better.
A significant aspect of my practicum involved implementing the Think-Write-Pair-Share teaching strategy, initially with one grade level and then expanding it to all 3rd to 5th-grade teachers. This strategy fostered active learning and allowed me to gather data on its effectiveness, demonstrating the role of evidence-based approaches in achieving educational goals.
Reflecting on these experiences underscores my commitment to collaborative leadership. My strategy for integrating CAPE 1 into my administrative practice includes:
1. Regularly involving the school community in developing and refining our shared vision to ensure it reflects collective aspirations.
2. Keeping stakeholders informed and engaged through various platforms, ensuring the vision's progress is transparent.
3. Aligning professional development with our vision, focusing on practical, evidence-based instructional strategies.
4. Establishing robust feedback mechanisms to evaluate the vision's effectiveness and make necessary adjustments continuously.
5. Leading by example to embody the vision’s principles and mentoring emerging leaders to sustain our vision.
These strategies will help build a responsive and inclusive school culture that prioritizes academic excellence and the well-being of every community member. My future practice as an administrator will leverage these practicum experiences to lead with empathy, innovation, and a solid commitment to community-driven success.
